Bedtime Questions With Kids
Evenings were getting too deep for me recently. Between world events, being inside due to the cold, and post holiday blues, I couldn’t be emotionally available after 8pm for our evening bedtime rituals. I asked chat to help me come up with some good questions that make the kiddos feel seen without a spiral. Figured I’d share them with all of you too!
Week 1: Gratitude & Noticing the Good
What was one small thing today that made you smile?
Who was kind to you today, even in a little way?
What’s something you did today that you’re proud of?
What was the coziest part of your day?
What’s one thing your body helped you do today?
What’s something fun or silly that happened today?
If today had a “best moment,” what would it be?
Week 2: Strengths & Confidence
What’s something you’re getting better at lately?
When did you feel brave today?
What’s something you like about the way your brain works?
What’s a challenge you handled well today?
What’s something you know now that you didn’t know last year?
If today were a level in a game, what would you earn points for?
What’s something kind you did for someone else today?
Week 3: Imagination & Joy
If today were a color, what color would it be and why?
If you could replay one moment from today, which one would you pick?
What’s something you’re looking forward to this week?
If you could give today a funny title, what would it be?
If you had a superpower just for today, what would it be?
What’s something that made you laugh today?
If today were a movie, who would be the hero?
Week 4: Connection & Calm
What’s something you like about our family?
What’s something that helps you feel safe and calm?
Who is someone you felt connected to today?
What’s something you like about being you?
What’s one good thing about tomorrow?
What’s something you’re thankful your body or mind does for you?
What’s a happy memory you like to think about before sleep?
Bonus Gentle Closers
What’s something you want your dreams to be about tonight?
If you could send yourself a kind message before sleep, what would it say?
Tip:
You don’t have to ask them exactly as written. It’s okay if the answer is one word, silly, or “I don’t know.” The magic is in the presence, not the depth.
